funk. We don’t know what to do or even how we got there and we start
questioning everything. The mlm funk has claimed the lives of many
would be network marketing leaders.

MLM Success & MLM’s Darkest Secret
So there I was on the phone the other day calling a new member of my downline and suddenly I
was once again faced with the ugliest dark secret of the Network Marketing industry,
Attrition………..
I mean I shouldn’t have been surprised, they had of course been in the deal for a little over four
weeks.
Four weeks!!!
Good grief, sometimes it just kind of ticks you off!
In a little more than a month another MLM distributor had just disappeared, vaporized!
It’s like they had been swallowed up by the “Black Hole” of network marketing and probably
transported to some parallel universe of MLM.
Kind of like all those socks that seem to disappear in the drier from time to time.
I truly believe at some point I am going to discover where that parallel universe is and then I will
find a huge downline of all those “disappeared” distributors and of course thousands of missing
socks.
So that makes the question of the hour, why do people drop out of MLM?
Is it doubt, lack of commitment, laziness, kidnapping?
Now I have to tell you that even after more than 23 years in the MLM industry I still have to just
shake my head and wonder.
Here you have the greatest industry in the world, an industry where you can only achieve
success by helping other to excel and in doing so achieve financial success that is beyond
most people’s wildest dreams.
I mean it’s almost better than sex!
So what’s the problem?
It’s baffling really.
I have finally decided to call it a syndrome and just name the ugly beast.
That is of course what medical doctors do when they can’t figure out what’s wrong with
someone, they just call it a syndrome and give it a fancy name and that’s supposed to make you
feel better.
So I gave it some thought and decided to name it “IGD” (Instant Gratification Disappointment).
You know that’s what it is if course, the need for instant gratification.
Now it’s not just some character flaw in those missing distributors, the desire for instant
gratification exists in all of us.
Let’s face it, if we had a choice we would all rather have it now than wait.
We all want the magic pill, you know the one we swallow and our entire world changes …..
Instantly !
We all want the instant MLM Success lottery experience.
Now there actually is a magic pill, but it has nothing to do with instant MLM success.
Years ago in my first Network Marking company there was an upline leader called Richard Kall.
Now Richard was a great guy who was enormously successful and probably generated at his
high point over $500,000 per month in income. He used to always talk about the “magic pill” in
his presentations.
It went something like this….
“If I could distill everything I know about this business into a little pill, and you took it, you
wouldn’t sleep for a month!”
Now everyone always assumed he was talking about some secret strategy for MLM success, or
some closely guarded MLM marketing system, but he wasn’t.
The “Magic Pill” he spoke about was belief….
The belief that MLM success is real, and that we can accomplish our goals and have those huge
checks we all dream about in the network marketing industry.
If we have belief, then we are armed with the most powerful weapon in the entire MLM success
arsenal.
Now I am not talking about belief with a little “b” but belief with a capital “B”.
Now let’s be honest here, there are many companies out there in the MLM industry with great
life changing products and that’s fine, but we are all pretty much all here for the money.
Now all it takes to generate the little “b” belief is a quick look at couple of photocopied checks
from our upline and our heart starts pounding like a racehorse…..
…and we believe.
Ah yes, but do we really “Believe”?
Come on now…. It’s just us talking here, let’s be honest.
How realistic is it to really believe that you can generate an income of $30,000 or $40,000
(or if you think really big, $100,000) a month or more from your Network Marketing
business?
Is it pure fantasy? Is it luck? Or is it the result of a carefully executed business plan?
Well it’s actually all of those.
Now for some it’s only fantasy … they simply dream the dream, and if MLM success doesn’t
happen quickly or it takes actual work , they are gone in a heartbeat.
We work with them for a week or more, and then one day we call them up and they say “Marc
Who?” “Oh yeah, decided not to do that…”.
Those are the ones who burn us out on the MLM industry.
It’s the frustration of having passion, and trying to work with those who have none.
Then after the fantasy seekers, there are the people for whom success is purely a function of
luck. We have all seen them at company events where they are held out as shining examples of
what’s possible in the world of MLM success.
They just talked to a few who talked to a few and presto………. MLM Success and the big
checks!
But luck cannot be duplicated…. Try it in vegas if you don’t believe me.
It’s that lottery mentality, the hope of random luck that brings this group of uncommitted reps
into the MLM industry.
Now of course I would not turn down random luck if it smiled on me, but then it’s also a kind of
a curse in a way since most of the people who have hit the luck button know deep down inside
that they have no clue how they got there.
So it becomes impossible to ever duplicate that MLM success again
Last there are the MLM success stories that come as the result of study, understanding, and a
carefully executed business plan.
This is where real MLM success lies….
It is the true path, but of course it is also the hardest way, because you actually have to study, and
learn, and pay your dues.
It is the success lesson that all entrepreneurs have to learn at some point.
If you know the market is there, then success is simply finding the way to tap into it, to capture
that traffic, that flow of buyers you know is out there, and to hold on to your belief in the
process.
True entrepreneurs know there is no such thing as failure, there are only things that didn’t
work.
They know that if the market is there, they simply have to rework what didn’t work into what
does work, and it may take a little time but there is never any doubt in their heart of the outcome.
Be an entrepreneur…..
There is a great motivational story about one of histories’ great inventors and entrepreneurs
called Thomas Edison who it seems totally changed the world by inventing the incandescent
light bulb.
He was interviewed after the discovery and he told how he had failed time after time to find the
right material to make the light bulb work. The reporter who interviewed him asked him how he
had the faith to keep going after he failed over 3000 times, to which he replied:
“I didn’t fail 3,000 times. I just found 3,000 ways how not to create a light bulb, I never had any
doubt I would find the one that did work”.
Once you learn this lesson of “Belief” you will find it hard not to laugh out loud when you hear
that famous phrase that the network marketing quitter always speaks
Well it just didn’t work for me…..
So go out there ….. find the belief…..make the commitment…. And make it so…
Now one of the things that can help you spin the dial and transform “belief” to “Belief” is to #1
find a mentor figure who you relate to and form a relationship, and the other is to go to company
events so that you can actually reach out and touch the reality of it all.
My first company event for my first MLM company was in San Diego years ago. Now I already
believed when I went to it, I mean I had seen the checks and I even had a copy of one, but I did
not really Believe!
Then at that event, when I finally was immersed in the all encompassing reality of the business
and for the first time could actually reach out and touch the key players, I began to BELIEVE,
and that Belief took on a life of its own.
And so it started, I tell you I did not even need a plane to fly home I was already at 30,000 feet
and you know what, I never really did come back to earth.
Once I actually believed in my heart that it was real to the point where I could even taste it,
it was a pivotal turning point in my MLM career.
Nothing could stop me from achieving my goals in MLM ever again.
Father’s Day was started in 1910 by Mrs. John Dodd of Spokane, Washington. The custom spread throughout the United States and in 1936 a national Father’s Day committee was formed. Headquartered in New York City, the committee annually selects a Father of the Year. Some of the fathers who have won this title are Douglas MacArthur, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Harry S. Truman.
Father’s Day is about family with the focus being on the dad, grandpa, or father figure in a child’s life. This is a day to say thanks to all those wonderful dads out there; a day to recognize Dad’s contribution to the family. In this world we only have the opportunity to have one father and that alone shows us how important celebrating his fatherhood is. As with any other job done we all like to feel appreciated from time to time and the job of being a father is no exception.

We live in a microwave society where we want it ALL and we want it NOW! Some people want to teach us that that’s somehow wrong. That good things come only to those who wait. I say that’s total BS.
We live in the 21st century and at the dawning of a new era where the world is literally at our fingertips. It is called the information age. Why shouldn’t we have more money, more fun, more free time, more relationships, more whatever, fill in the blank?..
Well if you’re anything like me and you want more of those things, I’m going to explain to you how to get it.
My explaination of how to have more ease, speed and pleasure in your business is actually going to be so simple that many of you will immediately reject it and it may even offend some of you. If it does offend some of you I just want you to know that I’m ok with that and I promise you will get over it.
Are you ready? Here it is..
Expect it!
Stupid simple right? Its so simple in fact that I’m sure many people already hit the little X button in the corner of the screen and are now back on facebook checking to see if they have any new messages..
People will bend over backwards and even lie to themselves repeatedly to ensure that the world aligns with what they believe. Go back and read that again if you have to because when you really understand this you can open your eyes to a wold of possibility that exists right under your nose.
If you believe something to be hard it will be hard. If you believe the same thing to be easy it will show up in your reality as easy. Maybe not right away but eventually it will. I’ll describe some practical ways of doing this in just a minute. I see people all the time talking themselves right out of success by using language like, “my leads suck”, “I’m not very good with computers”, “no one has any money”, “I’m no good with sales”, and all kinds of other ‘struggle talk’ that basically leads to more struggle so they can continue to be right and avoid success.
Why would anyone want to avoid success? Simply put.. fear!
Even though you might consciously say that you want to make a lot of money and be more successful you probably have deeply rooted FALSE beliefs that becoming success will mean that your friends and loved ones will resent you and abandon you. It actually comes from fear of abandonment that was instilled in you when you were a baby and before you knew any better.
Okay lets get back on track before I go too far off into left field.
Give yourself some time to accept this idea
“I allow myself to discover the easiest, fastest and best way to make the most money with the least amount of human effort and zero guilt”
A mentor of mine went from making $250K per year and working 7 days a week to making half a million dollars a year and working 4 days a week in just 1 year by asking himself this question repeatedly. He simply allowed himself to expect ease, speed and pleasure in his business and thats what eventually showed up.
Action Steps
Do yourself a favor and think about a few ways in which your business, or some aspect of your life is a little off at the present time. Then instead speaking it into existence, “spin it” and write down positive statements with an expectation of ease, speed and pleasure.
For example: If the belief is, “my leads suck,” or, “no one is signing up with me”
Change that to: “I am on the verge of discovering a powerful source of new leads and new clients for my business. I am discovering new ways of securing new business faster and with less effort. I’m also on the verge of discovering new ways of generating more income from my existing clients in ways that benefit me monetarily and benefit the client by the amount of value they receive. I’m also becoming better at finding and creating win win situations.”
Also adopt this as your new montra. Say it in front of the mirror and while in the shower. Write it down in a journal daily. “I allow myself to discover the easiest, fastest and best way to make the most money with the least amount of human effort and zero guilt”
As you can tell I’m a big fan of changing language as a way to transform your limiting beliefs and create positive results. This is because of the transformation I have experienced as a direct result. Changes in language lead to BIG changes in behavior. And of course changes in behavior leads to changes in results.
Improve your “self talk” and I promise it won’t be long before your results change drastically.

“All you got.”
The good news is it does not take more than all you got. But it does take all you got. Every journey to success does because the road will be full of obstacles, challenges and distractions.
Building a profitable network marketing business is unique though. Because it could very well be the most difficult thing you will ever do.
Why? Quite a few reasons.
First, at the heart of the business is leadership development. Not an easy thing to learn and certainly not an easy thing to teach. You have to develop people skills and learn how to motivate, persuade, coach, and encourage.
Yet before you can evolve into the leader you need to be to attract success, you will have to work on yourself first! Because we all have any number of hurts, habits and hang ups that tend to hold us back from living into our own potential and you must dig deep to surgically remove all of those issues before you can leader others to the promised land as well.
It takes guts, courage and a willingness to grow beyond your comfort zone.
With network marketing, you have to go all in. Because anything less will not work. You can start part-time, you can start with a limited commitment, and you can start not even believing it will work for you and your family.
But to build a massively successful business, at some point, you’ll have to take off the training wheels, stop making excuses and make a real commitment to doing exactly what it takes to create a dynasty. You’ll have to go from putting in a couple hours per week to putting in a couple hours per day. You’ll have to go from finding the time to making the time. You’ll have to go from trying to doing. Period. End of conversation.
Most important, you will have to develop an unshakable belief.
Because you don’t really sell people into this business. It doesn’t work that way. You can only “catch the dream” and share your dream so passionately that people are drawn towards wanting to be a part of what you are doing and where you are going.
Most people live life too small. They doubt their beliefs and believe their doubts. You have to be different. And that means daily self-development. Keeping your dream in front of you. And making sure your dream is bigger than the hurts, habits and hang ups that used to hold you back.
Building a business requires sacrifice.
So your dream has to be even bigger than the things you will need to give up or miss out on in the short term. You also need to make room in your life for other people’s dreams, goals and aspirations and learn how to bring massive value into the market place. You will need to learn how to served versus being served.
It is going to mean facing rejection. Facing your fears. Dealing with dropouts and no shows. Negative publicity, misperceptions, adversity and even gut-retching ridicule.
Bottom line? Network marketing is HARD. So why do it?
Because it will be the most rewarding business you ever do in your life. Not only can you win free trips, cars and create an income that can set you free financially, but it also does so much more!
The people skills, communication skills and confident you develop are priceless. The “who” you will become is worth more than the price in blood, sweat and tears. And the joy that comes for offering people a hand up versus a hand out is absolutely incredible.
When your new team member calls you jumping up and down with excitement because they’ve sponsored their first rep. The growth you witness someone speaks from stage for the first time or actually picks up that 500 pound phone to call the prospect they are most fearful of. When you find yourself walking the beaches of the world together with your new friends and business partners, it will bring you rewards greater than the greatest of treasures.
In this business you reach success by helping other people reach success. There is no other way. And we seem to be hard-wired to work hard for others than we do for ourselves, it is that sense of serving that will get you up at 6 am for self-development and exercise. It will be your desire to serve that compels you to pick up the phone and make yet another connection that may or may not take you closer to your goals.
So yeah, it doesn’t take more than you got. But it does take all you got.
But it’s worth it.
So find someone you respect and make them a promise that you will do what it takes to win. Ask them to hold you accountable. Then make yourself the same promise. After that, make a public declaration and announce your course.
Are you up for that? If not, why not? And if not now, when?
